The Impact of New Media on Bollywood Entertainment
Some call it Web 2.0, and others call it social media. Whatever the name is, it’s technology that’s helping to shape and drive the growth of the Bollywood Entertainment industry. So what exactly is social media, and how does it help to drive the growth of Bollywood? For the sake of convenience, we’ll just call it social media from here on.
Social media is the natural evolution of the Internet. It means building communities that are able to interact and share with one another on the Internet. For example, if you’re on a social media website, you may be able to see what your friends are doing online. If they’re listening to some cool MP3 music, you may be able to do the same. If they’re visiting some cool Bollywood MP3 websites, you’ll be able to see those sites as well (ever heard of social bookmarking?).
This makes it very convenient for people to share stuff with others. Bookmarks, digital files such as MP3 audio files, videos, PDF reports and so on. So if there’s anything that’s worth sharing on the Internet, you can be sure that in this day and age, it’s going to go viral. Viral simply means that people are willing to tell others about the cool stuff that they’ve come across willingly.
And since we see a lot of entertaining, unique and cool Hindi videos online, it’s no wonder that people all over the world are paying attention to Bollywood. In India, the culture is unique and many find Hindi movies and music to be a breath of fresh air.
With the widespread adoption of blogging (another form of social media), fans can now create new unofficial fan sites in a matter of minutes and get all their friends to the sites and share some great music or videos. Their friends can in turn leave comments about their favorite Hindi stars on the blogs. Who is their favorite lead actor or actresses? Who is in and who is out? On the Internet, it’s all very revealing. Plus, it’s a great load of fun and a great experience to talk about Hindi movies on some friend’s blog.
Since Bollywood is reputed to be one of the most productive movie production studio in the world, it’s really no surprise to see the sheer number of videos and music clips that find their way on to the Internet and spread like wild fire.
The role of these social websites is an important one and cannot be underestimated. They not only capture the hearts of existing fans, they also help capture the attention of new fans. And they allow these fans to further fuel their love for their favorite Bollywood movies or music by giving them numerous channels to communicate and share with one another.
As the Internet continues to grow at a phenomena pace, we can expect the role of social media in the Bollywood entertainment industry to grow in tandem

Introduction to Blu-ray – Your Guide to the Future of Home Entertainment …now!

Blu-ray Disc (BD), is the name of the most technologically advanced optical disc storage medium on the market. Blu-ray was developed by the Blu-ray Disc Association (BDA), which is a group of the worlds leading consumer electronics, computer hardware and motion picture companies. The BD disc has the same physical dimensions as a standard DVD and CD, but its main advantages are more storage space for data and the ability to store high-definition video. This allows Blu-ray Players to play the highest quality movies at 1080p resolution with an HDMI cable. Blu-ray Disks are able to hold up to ten times more storage capacity than a traditional DVD, that is 25GB on a single-layer disc and 50GB on a dual-layer disc. Recent developments by Pioneer players have pushed the storage capacity to 500GB on a single disc by using 20 layers but they are still developiing and perfecting the technology.
If you like burning with your existing DVD burner on your computer, you will love a Blu-ray burner. The Blu-ray format is able to store much more data due to its blue-violet laser which has a shorter wave length than the DVD standard of a red laser. This offers the Blu-ray media to focus the laser with even greater precision offering the data to be packed more tightly and use less space on the disc. That is where is can hold ten times as much data, a DVD single layer will hold 4.7GB where as a dual-layer Blu-ray disc will hold 50GB. Many Bly-ray players are backwards compatible with DVD and CD discs so you can watch your current collection.
On Going Development
The companies in the Blu-ray Disc Association are working on improving Blu-ray discs and making them cheaper. There are over 1200 Blu-ray movies currently on Blu-ray discs and they are always releasing more every week. Currently, the companies are working on making quad-layer 100GB discs, 200GB discs and even a 20 layer 500GB disc. There are also Mini Blu-ray Discs which have been developed for compact camcorders and other compact recording devices. But the most exciting development has to be the recordable Blu-ray disc. As with DVD, they will have a single use disc or BD-R and a disc that can be erased and re-recorded multiple times, the BD-RE. The first recordable discs were released in February 2008 and in March 2008, BD-R gained official support from the Sony Playstation 3. If you are in the market to upgrade or start your home entertainment system, a Blu-ray player and/or a Blu-ray recorder are must have items for any entertainment enthusiast.

Superhero Kicks Baddies on Blu-Ray

Thousands of devotees throng to a temple and lay down their economic woes and complain about wrong doings of criminals. And the very day they are taken care of and how? A super hero who raises goose bumps as a caped crusader dressed as a rooster with his intriguing strut, batman like stunts and a golden mask that reveals only the glint in his eyes torments criminals and delivers justice. This is Kanthaswamy.
Vikram, or Chiyaan, as he is fondly referred to among his fans plays a CBI sleuth, who during day chases the baddies (Ashish Vidyarthi & Co) to recover their black money and during night transforms himself to a superhero that fights for the common man’s justice.
This 3 hour 15 minute caper, which released last season, is all about good v/s bad and is delivered with punch and a host of special effects making it an ideal viewing sensation on Blu-ray Discs which have been released recently.
The fight sequences, especially the blind-folded action scenes in Mexico, are breathtaking. The innovative camera angles and lighting by cinematographer NK Ekambaram make the film visually stunning. Thotta Dharani's art work is also awesome. Devi Sri Prasad's music goes with the movie's mood. Two of the six songs – Excuse me Mr. Kandasamy and Yen Peru Meenakumari – have been picturised well.
Vikram is more invigorated in each and every frame. And indeed, you get to spot him smarter with trimmed looks. He astounds us with his different-shaded characterizations and keeps us entertained. Other notable performances include Prabhu and Vadivel, all of which can be enjoyed at your home with your favourite snack. Of course Shriya and Susi Ganesh are two more reasons for one to feast their eyes on this big budget blockbuster from Kollywood.
Kanthaswamy is for those looking for sheer entertainment and is best viewed on Blu-ray. Go to
