Srimannarayana (Bala Krishna) is a professor at a college. He is a hot-blooded guy and cannot any kind of injustice in the society. He often takes law into his hands and punishes the wrong-doers. Janaki (Sneha Ullal) is a student in the college and she has a mysterious past. A group of goons keeps chasing her and her flashback unfolds one day after Srimannarayana confronts them. The rest of the story is all about another character Simha and how Simha is related to Srimannarayana.

Simha, The movie broke the box office records created by any movie in the last 78 years of Telugu cinema. This box office potboiler created sensation by running record number of theaters for 50 days and it has completed 100 days run successfully.

Bala Krishna is terrific as Simha in the flashback episode. His dialogue delivery is controlled and is extremely effective. His get-up as Simha is highly respectable and dignified. After a long gap, Bala Krishna fans have cherished the looks and performance of Bala Krishna as he plays it to the galleries.

Boyapati Seenu who mastered mass treatment to his movies like Bhadra and Tulasi made sure that there are ample commercial elements that satisfy the thrust of masses and fans. He projected Bala Krishna in the right way and extracted powerful mass performance.

Ray's films among 20 classics to be digitized

Some 20 classic Indian movies, including five made by legendary film-maker Satyajit Ray, are likely to be available in home video formats such as Blu-ray discs and DVDs next year.

Cameo Digital Systems Pvt. Ltd is currently restoring these films to support the high-definition formats for the National Film Development Corp. of India, or NFDC. The project is part of the information and broadcasting (I&B) ministry's '660 crore drive to restore and archive classic Indian films, which were otherwise going out of print. NFDC will restore 75 titles by March 2012, but can launch home videos of only those films for which it owns copyright.

"We are optimistic about bringing out DVDs and Blu-ray discs of some of our restored films," managing director Nina Lath Gupta said.

These include Ray's Ghare- Baire, Ganashatru, Jalsaghar, Aparajito and his last film Agantuk, besides 15 well-known classics such as Mirch Masala and Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro. Most of them were produced by NFDC.

Another NFDC official said the corporation will float a tender by March, inviting companies to bid for launching DVDs and Blu-ray discs of these 20 titles. He asked not to be named as he is not authorized to speak to the media. For five months, Cameo Digital has been engaged in special audio restoration of these films. "With consumers having better deliverable platforms, and high-definition becoming the buzzword in entertainment, it is important for the picture and the sound to be matched and restored to the best technological level," said Purab Gurjar, chief executive of Cameo Digital. "Blu-ray is the future format of home entertainment, and it will be a welcome move to have film director Satyajit Ray's movies in this format. We will be happy to partner on any such move," said G Dhananjayan, chief executive of home entertainment business for disc-maker Moser Baer India Ltd.

Some of Ray's other films are available in the market as their rights are held by companies such as Eagle Home Entertainment Pvt. Ltd and Ultra Entertainment Pvt. Ltd.

The National Film Archive of India, or NFAI, is also participating. "Since we are not copyright holders for films and just an archival body, we cannot sell DVDs of any of the restored films commercially," said Vijay H. Jadhav, NFAI's director.

But the agency does screen the restored movies.

"Last month, we screened three of Mrinal Sen's films on Blu-ray at a film festival in Mumbai," Jadhav said.

Reliance MediaWorks Ltd has restored 175 films for NFAI and expects to restore another 1,000.

It makes four-five Blu-ray discs and provides them to NFAI along with a restored master copy of the film.

"The idea of restoring content is to allow it to get adjusted to technology, whether it's standard DVDs or high-definition Blu-ray," said Hemen Doshi, chief operating officer of Digital Media Imaging, the media outsourcing arm of Reliance MediaWorks.

From 22 November to 2 December, five of NFAI's restored films will be screened in Goa at the 41st International Film Festival of India.

The oldest among these is Marthanda Varma, a 1931 silent film in Malayalam.

"We want audiences to experience these iconic films through the best technological platform," Jadhav said.

Description of the movie

The movie starts with a flashback, in front of a church, in 1980 when the foursome were children. This scene sets the stage to the beginning of their friendship. Thomas Philip (a.k.a Thomas Kutty) loses money to a scam artist, who responds to his complaints with violence. He is rescued by the other three, who respond to this calls of distress. They then invite Thomas Kutty to join their group, who, above all, vow never to cheat on one another. The scene is transitioned by the quote "Thomas kutty Vittodaa!"(Thomas kutty, time to run!!) once the scam artist brings his friends to return the beating he got.

The movie then transitions to the current time frame, where each of them are introduced again, 20 years later. Mahadevan is a motivational speaker, and an unhappily married father. Govindan Kutty is a civil engineer who's happily married and settled in Dubai. Appukuttan (now, Dr. Appukuttan Nair) is a dentist who often fights with his wife and kids (who are twins). The prologue show them preparing to travel back to Harihar Nagar to attend Thomas Kutty's wedding (who, after all these years of "enjoying" his bachelor life, has finally decided to settle down and marry an orphan girl who belonged to the same church as he did. The prologue also highlights that none of them have really changed from their flirtatious ways, despite being married.

After arriving at Harihar Nagar, they settle into Govindan Kutty's old house at Harihar Nagar. Disappointed at how life has become sombre after growing up, they decide to revert to their younger selves for the rest of the trip. To jump start their "trip back to youthfulness", Mahadevan suggests that they should create problems in the neighborhood, because according to him, its only with problems that one becomes youthfully energetic.

While staying at Govindan Kutty's house, they are greeted with flowers left at the doorstep with a name tag "Maya". Immediately thinking that this is their old Maya, they go to meet her. They barely miss her, but Appukuttan throws a rock and breaks her car's rear window. An anonymous woman steps out of the car. But it is not "their" Maya. They are immediately arrested. Later, "Maya" comes and gets them out of jail saying that they are her friends and didn't recognize it because she hadn't seen them in a long time. Once out, she says not to bother her anymore because of this. Maya lives right across Govindan Kutty's house. So trying to find the weakness that will draw her attention, one night Appukuttan looks over on to the window and is frightened by the sight of a ghostly figure with a "burned" face. Thomas kutty is not staying with the other 3 on that night, but he arrives the next morning. Mahadevan says a sentimental story to make Maya not believe that they're here for the wrong reasons. She later comes and visits them and becomes their friend. A hilarious sequence follows. Later it is revealed that Maya is John Honai's daughter, in cahoots with her evil brother (John was the villain in the first part). Thomas kutty gets kidnapped days before his wedding and the other three friends are suspected. They are followed by the police. Meanwhile Junior Honai reveals that he has Thomas kutty with him. When the threesome after a great difficulty enters Honai's hiding place they find Thomas kutty there. Honai demands the box filled with money which the old Maya had given them. The box is now is a bank with each of the foursome knowing two digits of the password. The four escape but now Appukuttan is missing. Maya is found and chided. But she tells her story full of dire circumstances. The correct code for the box sounds to be faulty. It seems that Appukuttan who is in the hands of Honai has forgotten his two digits. After a lot of twists and turns they confround Honai who has a time bomb attached to a clinging lizard. The time bomb comically gets caught over each person. But then things get serious. The time bomb gets caught on Thomas kutty and Honai presses the time bomb which would burst in 30 seconds. Thomas kutty runs to Honai in the last few seconds and pushes Honai along with himself into the next room. The bomb goes off. Honai is dead. Thomas kutty too, although not so sure. The remaining part of the movie (the climax) is reportedly the best part of the movie, which has a grand surprize hiding in it.

India consumers moving towards premium products

The Indian consumers are increasing upgrading to newer, more advanced and premium products like LCD, LED, HD or 3D television, a Blu-ray player, split ACs, Fridge with two side by side doors.

Most of the electronic brands in India hold the view that the trend in Metro and large city is to upgrade to premium products. The products that were not considered the main attraction as they were at the top of technology as well as pricing are now being south after as the consumers are willing to pay more for premium products.

Yasho Verma, COO, LG India says that the company is seeing a growing number of consumers demanding premium products. He said that the reason for the growth is high disposable incomes as well as that most of the consumers are now upgrading to newer products. He pointed out that 80% of its premium product customers are upgrading.

Ravinder Zutshi, deputy MD, Samsung India Electronics also agrees to the view and says that upgradations are driving growth for premium products. He said that the consumers in the country are looking for features and not pricing. The company is offering LCD, LED, 3D LED and plasma in the country.

Tadato Kimura, GM marketing, Sony India says that there is a new generation of Indian consumers desiring high end products. Sony is expecting high sales from 3D TVs this year.

The company will invest Rs 45 crore on marketing activities for its 3D products alone this festival season. The company has already launched a complete range of 3D professional solutions, consumer electronics, movies and gaming.

The industry expects to sell more premium consumer electronics compares to last year. The sales of LCD TV is expected to double while sales for split ACs, fully automatic washing machines and frost-free refrigerators are also expected to rise.

Bollywood’s star power is killing off ‘Lollywood’, Pakistan’s struggling movie industry in Lahore, according to actors, directors and cinema owners who accuse India of poaching its best actors and hijacking screens.

Pakistan's actors claim Bollywood stars like Aishwarya Rai are killing their film industry , AFP Hundreds of Pakistani cinemas have closed in the past decade while Lahore now produces only about 20 films a year - a fraction of the 1000 or so movies made in Mumbai’s $1.3bn industry.

However proposals for closer ties between the two cities’ studios have been met with horror in Pakistan, where industry figures fear it would hasten the talent drain.

Pakistan opposition leader Nawaz Sharif cleared of hijacking charge Ghulam Mohiuddin, an actor and director who has starred in more than 400 films, said Lollywood was being swamped by hundreds of new movies from India, made with budgets way beyond the means of Pakistani movies.

“We have some good cinemas but we can’t provide so many good, new films.

People are used to good technical movies and they don’t want the smaller budget films,” he said.

The 1960s marked the high point of Pakistan’s film industry, when Abbot Road in Lahore filled with smart art-deco cinemas playing the latest colour offerings to packed houses.

Today, the heart of movieland is dead. Fourteen of the theatres have closed - some flattened to become car parks while others have been converted into shopping malls — leaving six tatty, run-down fleapits with leaking roofs and dodgy sound systems.

The 1998 hit Choorian briefly revived the industry. Its tale of a city boy who falls in love with a country girl promised to another was dismissed by critics as derivate, but it proved a huge hit with movie audience who loved the way it pinched a proven Bollywood formula.

However, in recent years some of Pakistan’s hottest talent has moved to Mumbai. Ali Zafar, one of the country’s biggest pop stars, made his Bollywood debut this year in Tere Bin Laden as an ambitious young reporter who fakes an interview with the al Qaeda leader.

Add in a stagnating economy and criticism of Lollywood’s bawdy movies by islamic groups, and neighbouring India seems an attractive destination for young stars.

More than 20 million Indians go to see a film every day and the industry has gone global with crossover hits such as Monsoon Wedding and Bride and Prejudice filmed in the UK.

Actresses like Shilpa Shetty, who appeared in Celebrity Big Brother, are now household names in Britain.

This week, Nilofar Bakhtiar, who chairs the Pakistan Senate’s standing committee on culture and tourism, suggested strengthening ties with Bollywood to help revive Lollywood’s fortunes.

“Indian cinema is extremely advanced and we want Indian filmmakers to work with us. We also want training opportunities for our actors and directors in India,” she said at the South Asia Film Festival in Goa this week.

But the suggestion would lead to a faster exodus of talent to India, said Qaisar Sanaullah Khan, secretary of the Cinema Owners Association.

He said Bollywood had been draining talent from Lahore’s studios for years.

“It has always been one way. We just cannot afford to pay the sort of money that they do,” he said.

“The Pakistan film industry is completely finished. In the 1980s we were producing up to 100 movies a year. Now there are no studios and our cinemas are closing.” He said he always tried to screen locally-made pictures at his Metropole cinema, one of the more luxurious left on Lahore’s Abbot Road. “But if there are none then it has to be Hollywood or Bollywood.”

Duke opens motorsport video sales ops in India

Isle of Man-based Duke, a distributor of motorsport and special interest programming, has launched its international operations in India.

It has appointed Ramya GN Reddy as the vice president of international sales in India who will focus on building on the company’s customer base in India.

Reddy has an experience of 10 years in marketing and customer relations. She will be based in Bangalore, with much of her work focusing on major retailers, media houses and television companies in Mumbai and Delhi.

Duke has been building its profile in India since 2008, through magazines including Overdrive and Bike India.

The firm decided to expand its operations in India in July, with a focus on building business-to-business trade contacts. Reddy aims to have Duke DVDs and Blu-ray titles on sale in major department stores and featured prominently in the Indian media.

Duke was founded by Peter Duke, son of multiple motorcycle World Champion Geoff Duke O.B.E., in 1981, and since then has established itself as the leading worldwide brand for motorsport video programming in all formats.

Duke has produced motorsport reviews on DVD and Blu-ray, including MotoGP, the World Rally Championship, the Superbike World Championship and the Isle of Man TT, as well as it offers classic motorsport programming. Since expansion in 2007, Duke has increased its non-motorsport catalogue to include cricket, rugby, football, golf, vintage transport, action sports such as mountain biking, fitness and lifestyle DVDs.

Reddy will also take initiatives in marketing the TV programmes Duke produces and distributes in partnership with Manx company Greenlight TV through the joint venture Motorsport Mundial.

Duke commercial director Jon Quayle said, “I am delighted to welcome Ramya to Duke and I’m very excited by the potential of the Indian market. Ramya has spent time in the Island meeting the team, getting to know our business and outlining the opportunities for our company in her home country.”

“We are already market leader in our field in the UK, and in many territories across Europe, as well as having a strong market share in the USA, Australia, Japan and the Middle East. India is a natural market for us to look at next, as interest in motorsport, which remains at the core of our business, is growing quickly throughout the subcontinent. India is represented at the highest levels of racing, with teams and drivers in championships as prestigious as Formula One, and the country is set to host its first Grand Prix next year,” he added.

“Direct sales to India through our website have shown there is a demand for our DVDs and Blu-ray discs. Although India is a very different economy and culture to ours, English is the main language for 30% of the population and the TV system used is the same as the UK, and I believe that with a presence in the country speaking directly to retail trade contacts we can build on that customer base,” said Quayle.

“Ramya will be helping us to build contacts with TV broadcasters in the country. In a Bid for MGM

One of India’s top film producers, Sahara India Pariwar, is interested in Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, James Bond’s Hollywood studio. That may sound groundbreaking, but a purchase of MGM by the Indian conglomerate would probably provoke only relief in Tinseltown because it would not upset the industry’s status quo. A more radical buyout could be something Google’s YouTube unit might be capable of, if it dares.

Sahara India Pariwar, India’s biggest film production company, which also operates multiplex cinemas, understands the prevailing Hollywood business model. Films are released first in theaters and then eventually appear on DVD and Blu-ray, on pay television, and on the Internet. The basic idea is that customers pay extra to see movies sooner, especially during the theatrical “window.”

That model, though, could be ripe for a shake-up amid the rise of Web-based video, led by YouTube, Hulu, Netflix and Apple iTunes. YouTube aside, these emerging channels have collaborated with content producers and have little interest in upsetting the industry. Hulu, for instance, is owned by three television networks. Netflix and iTunes have struck deals with producers to distribute their content, after a delay, to paying customers.

YouTube is a little different, and it’s the big player of the bunch. Four years after Google paid $1.6 billion for the business, people are watching two billion videos a day on the Web site. Yet the division is still a money loser though it is on the verge of making a profit. That’s because those videos mostly aren’t the kind that people pay for or advertisers crave. Long term, it’s hard to see how YouTube can turn its scale into cash without far greater access to original programming than it has currently planned.

Experiments in paid content and live streaming represent one type of response from YouTube. But it’s another possibility that particularly alarms some in Hollywood. With $30 billion of cash, Google could easily make an offer that MGM’s creditors couldn’t refuse. Owning MGM would allow YouTube to vault ahead of its rivals by bypassing the theatrical window. Maybe the next Bond film could even be released on the Web — whereby advertising revenue would supplant box office sales — just in time for the 50th anniversary of the franchise in 2012.

All that may sound like a stretch, but Google has already done plenty to disrupt media industry conventions. Hollywood may thank Bollywood for delaying another shock.

The release of two Bollywood films has been postponed amid fears of Muslim-Hindu violence in India following a court ruling on a high-profile religious dispute, the makers have said.

Sajid Nadiadwala said the romantic comedy “Anjaana Anjaani” (Strangers), which was due to hit screens Friday, would be put back to avoid any fall-out from the long-awaited verdict in the Babri Masjid case on the same day.

The thriller “Aakrosh” (Anger) has also been postponed from its scheduled October 1 release date, said producer Kumar Mangat.

Hindu nationalists razed a 16th-century mosque in Ayodhya, in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh, in 1992, claiming it had been built on the ruins of a temple marking the birthplace of the Hindu warrior god, Ram.

The destruction led to the bloodiest communal violence since the partition of the Indian sub-continent in 1947, leaving some 2,000 people dead and a legacy of mistrust between the two religious groups.

A court in northern India is set to rule on Friday which religious group should have ownership of the site.

Nadiadwala told a news conference on Monday evening: “The Ayodhya issue is a very big issue and therefore we decided to postpone the film by one week.

“Our film is a happy film and we felt it will not be appropriate to release the film on a day when such an important judgment is scheduled to come.”

“Anjaana Anjaani” is based in the United States starring Ranbir Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra while “Aakrosh”, with Ajay Devgan and Bipasha Basu, is billed as the first Hindi-language film to tackle the subject of honour killings.

“Aakrosh” will now be released on October 8, Mangat said.

“By postponing the film by one week we will be in a better position to market our film as we will have more time on our hands,” he added.

Pazhassi Raja to be shown at Tokyo Film Festival

The block buster film Pazhassi Raja has been selected for the International Film Festival in Tokyo.

The festival, starting September 16- 26, will feature Pazhassi Raja as the only movie which has been selected from India this year.

Noted director Hariharan's latest work will be showcased in the competition section of the prestigious Film Festival in Japan. Director Hariharan and producer Gokulam Gopalan will participate in the festival.

The film was produced in five languages at a cost of Rs. 27 crores and it has collected Rs. 20 crores till date, said producer Gokulam Gopalan in a press meet at Kochi.

Here's the first look of Ketan Mehta's full length animation film Ramayana - The Epic, which will be distributed by Hollywood studio Warner Bros Pictures India.

Hollywood studio Warner Bros has picked up distribution rights of animated feature film 'Ramayana - The Epic', slated for a Dussehra release on October 15.

Produced by Maya Digital Media, 'Ramayana - The Epic' is one of the most ambitious and expensive full length animation feature film to be made in India.

It will be released in three languages simultaneously across India - Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.

"Chetan Desai's version of this epic has taken animation films in India to the next level. Warner Bros. Pictures is delighted to be associated with this project," said Denzil Dias, Deputy Managing Director (Theatrical), Warner Bros Pictures, India.

Directed by debutant Chetan Desai, the film has Manoj Bajpayee, Juhi Chawla, and Ashutosh Rana lending their voices to the lead characters of Ram, Sita and Ravan respectively.

The film promises to be a spectacular audio visual experience far beyond anything ever attempted in India with skills and designs matching international standards of Computer animation and Digital Visual effects.

"Innovative techniques and processes had to be invented to give it the epic scale.It has the budget of a full fledged Bollywood film," he said.

The film has recreated the ancient classic like never before and possesses the enchantment and wonder of the original, presented with imaginative visual virtuosity and an aesthetic visual design.

According to him, Ramayan is a timeless classic and a perfect story to be told on screen. "Its still alive in the hearts and minds of people. The film is of 100 minutes duration and the story spans from the birth of Lord Ram till he comes to Ayodhya defeating Ravan," he added.

Mehta said the film is a mythological adventure, picturised in a stylised and contemporary manner with quality action sequences rivalling international standards.

"With this movie, Indian animation industry is scaling new heights. It is an spectacular audio visual experience far beyond any thing ever attempted in India with skills and designs matching international standards of Computer animation and Digital Visual effects. Art inspires technology, and technology inspires art," he said.

The Blu-ray discs market in India is still small however the demand has risen over time as companies increase their offering and carry out aggressive campaigns and price cuts.

The prices of the Blu-ray discs of English movies may fall by as much as 20-25% this Christmas, indicated a senior official at the Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. Sony Pictures Home Entertainment offers more than 500 Blu-ray English movies in the country.

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment managing director Keith Ribeiro said, "Blu-ray discs attract high customs duty and so, are selling at high prices in India. With lowering Blu-ray players’ prices and their increasing penetration, we see demand for Blu-ray content increasing. This may help in reducing software prices in future."

The company has a market share of 75% in the Blu-ray disc market in India. The Blu-ray discs of English movies are priced at Rs 1,000 and above while Hindi movie Blu-ray disc are priced at Rs 699 onwards.

Companies like Sony, Samsung and LG have been promoting Blu-ray players and also reduced the prices of upto 40%. The affordable Blu-ray disc players are priced between Rs 9,000-10,000.

Sony India on Thursday mad its foray into 3D technology by launching an array of products, ranging from LCD TVs to Blu-ray disc, digital still cameras, projectors and PlayStation. It also plans to deliver an array of 3D home entertainment solutions in the current year.

“We plan to become the market leader of 3D on account of providing the most comprehensive range of 3D products and content solutions.

The Sony group of companies have come together in terms of technology and engineering resources, spanning professional and consumer markets. This will enable us to bring the optimum 3D exposure to the Indian market,” Sony India Managing Director Masaru Tamagawa told journalists here.

While the 3D TV range is priced between Rs.1.54 lakh to Rs.2.60 lakh, the cost of 3D camera is Rs.20,990, the Blu-ray home theatre system Rs.39,990 and the Blu-ray player Rs.19,900. Sony plans to leverage all its diverse business assets to create a ‘3D world' encompassing electronics, games and 3D content.

With the launch of 3D-enabled hardware products and software content, the consumer electronics major aims to promote and establish the 3D culture in India and make this technology easily accessible to a wider audience.

“We aim at 30 per cent revenue contribution from 3D products by 2012,” Mr. Tamagawa said.

Sony India has also earmarked Rs.50-crore budget for promotional activities revolving around its 3D products and technology. It introduced its 3D TVs in attractive package offers and also some software and hardware bundle opportunities for 3D Blu-ray products.

: Panasonic has just announced, for the Japanese market to start with, that its new Viera 3D TVs will have built-in Blu-ray players. Though it will be a while before India gets the new series, the entertainment world is abuzz with the potential of Blu-ray in the country. The base is small, so small that numbers are hard to come by, but with Yash Raj Films releasing 17 of its films in Blu-ray and with BIG Home Video saying that the Dark Knight has been its single largest Blu-ray seller, all entertainment players, hardware makers included, are logging in. The Dark Knight sold over 1.7 million copies worldwide a week after launch in Blu-Ray format, and India too had a contribution.

It’s the latest rage in the world of entertainment. Blu-ray discs or the next generation optical disc format for high definition audio-video and data software applications can, according to the Blu-ray Disc Association, hold up to 50 gigabytes of data if it’s double-layered. The technology, developed by Sony, allows five times more storage space than a conventional DVD, better image and audio quality and more interactive features, but the discs have the same physical dimensions as standard DVDs and CDs. “It is still at a very early adoption stage in India and the base remains extremely small,” admits Muslim Kapasi, MD, Excel Home Videos, “but that’s the reason why it will easily double or even triple year on year for the next two-three years.” Pointing at Blu-ray’s biggest advantage, Kapasi says this is a future-ready format. For instance, it is easily adaptable to 3D, has high interactivity, has more space when needed and is backward compatible with DVDs and so forth.

G Dhananjayan, CEO, Home Entertainment Business, Moser Baer India, says the response to the Blu-ray titles it launched in Hindi and Malayalam has been encouraging. “As Blu-ray is a relatively new phenomenon in India, the masses are yet to experience the superior quality of viewing it offers. But the Indian market for Blu–ray is huge, and as technology adoption in India takes place quickly, we feel it could emerge as a key driver in the home video segment very soon,” he says. But he admits that it will need to release a range of titles before he can say more about customer response.

UTV Motion Pictures allies with The Walt Disney Company India

UTV Motion Pictures has entered in an alliance with The Walt Disney Company India wherein The Walt Disney Studios will handle home entertainment distribution for some of the key titles from the UTV Motion Pictures studio.

Through this collaboration UTV Motion Pictures takes advantage of a leading position maintained by The Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment division in the Indian home entertainment market.

The selective titles to be distributed through the alliance include recently released UTV blockbusters Raajneeti and I Hate Luv Storys, co production Udaan, India’s official selection for the Academy Awards Harishchandrachi Factory, What’s Your Raashee?, and Aage Se Right. Disney Home Entertainment division will handle distribution and marketing for all the titles.

“We are delighted to be working with UTV once again through our home entertainment business distributing and marketing key titles from their slate on Blu-ray discs, DVDs and VCDs to audiences throughout India,” says Mahesh Samat, managing director of The Walt Disney Company, India. “Disney India’s home entertainment business went direct early last year and in addition to distributing our own Disney titles, by working with key titles from UTV’s film slate, we continue to bring great stories and content to the small screens, entertaining families and children all over India.”

On this announcement, Siddharth Roy Kapur, CEO, UTV Motion Pictures said, “The Walt Disney Company India has established a strong foothold in the Home Entertainment space within a short span of time and we at UTV are thrilled to partner with them for some of our key titles.”

The distribution agreement adds to the Walt Disney Studio Home Entertainment’s growing retail presence, distributing and marketing popular titles to Indian families and fans. In addition to this announcement, Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment will also look for more local opportunities to provide Indian viewers with a more diverse range of content across genres and languages.
